Red Dress

The sun rays woke her up as they fell upon her face, almost blazing through her lifeless eyes. She took a look in the mirror, pale face with no trace of redness was all she could see. The hollows of her eyes pitch black, chapped cut lips and dry bruised skin completed her look.

As the water poured into the tub, her dress dropped down to her heels. Collarbone, stick arms, skinny thighs, skeleton frame with skin covered in cuts and bruises was all to be seen. In a perplexed state of the mind she looked in the mirror at the vision of the most fragile and vulnerable creature on the face of the earth and sighed.

Sinking into the tub, she vowed to herself that today was different, today was beautiful. Her eyes closed shut to the last happiest day of her life - Her wedding day.

'He said "I Will Love You Forever", as they exchanged vows in the church, but then fate had betrayed her in a dreadful way. With every abuse that came her way, she thought maybe he loved her like the way he vowed. As his leather belt touched her bare skin, as she was pushed down the wooden stairs and even locked in the cage for his Pitbull to prey, she thought maybe he loved her like the way he vowed. Maybe he still loved her the way he vowed. Maybe.'

A tear rolled down her cheek again but for the first time in ages she did something different, something she never did in the past ten years, she SMILED. Yes, a big beautiful smile. Because she realized, indeed today was different, today was beautiful when she finally decided to no longer stay captive by the 'Maybe' thought again.

Emerging out, her pain all washed away with a new joy on the face. She stepped into her wedding gown and smeared some red lipstick on. As if the time flew back Ten years younger, her lips fuller, eyes full of life and her skeleton frame seemed healthy again.

A gun was fired,

she fell on the bed,

a deep breath passed,

white dress turned red.

The sun rays fell upon her face again but this time she didn't wake. Now, in her Red Dress, far away from pain, safe and sound she slept.
